Zimam

Palestinian youth leadership for a democratic and pluralistic future.

Zimam is a grassroots youth movement in Palestine whose name means “reins” or “taking initiative” in Arabic. Their work focuses on young Palestinians as leaders of tomorrow: people who can challenge the status quo, engage constructively in public life, and help shape a more democratic, pluralistic, and nonviolent society.

Within the broader civil society ecosystem, Zimam strengthens Palestinian civic agency from within. Its work is rooted in the belief that peace and freedom also require strong democratic culture, responsible leadership, and young people who are prepared to participate in shaping their society’s future.

Their Role in Civil Society

Zimam plays a vital role in Palestinian leadership development and community organizing. Working across the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem, the movement helps young people build the knowledge, confidence, and civic responsibility needed to transform public thinking and contribute to long-term social and political change.

Mission

Zimam is a pioneering grassroots youth movement in Palestine that challenges the status quo. Taking a domestic approach to conflict resolution, Zimam works with the leaders of tomorrow to build a more democratic, actively engaged, and pluralistic society. Inspired by values of democracy, pluralism, nonviolence, and responsibility, they are building the foundations for a peaceful future in a sovereign and prosperous Palestinian state free from occupation.
