Clean Shelter is a grassroots humanitarian organization responding to the devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Founded by two women — Seba Abudaqa, a Palestinian from Gaza, and Tom Kellner, an Israeli — Clean Shelter provides immediate relief to displaced communities through clean water, sanitation, and dignified shelter solutions. Its work is rooted in locally led, community-based action, with teams on the ground identifying urgent needs and implementing practical responses in some of the most difficult conditions.
Their Role in Civil Society
Clean Shelter plays a vital role in the Palestinian and Israeli civil society ecosystem by addressing the most basic conditions of human dignity during displacement: water, sanitation, safety, and shelter.
In Gaza, displacement has left families living without reliable access to clean water, safe toilets, showers, privacy, or protection from winter conditions. Clean Shelter responds with practical humanitarian infrastructure: desalination units, water distribution, toilets and showers, protection camps, house repairs, hygiene support, and community-led services for displaced families.
The organization’s work is especially important because it combines emergency relief with dignity-centered design. Clean Shelter prioritizes vulnerable households, including women-led families, elderly people, people with disabilities, and families who have lost relatives or support networks. Its model is fast, flexible, locally informed, and focused on solutions that communities can use immediately.
